A first edition copy of this work of letters of Captain Engelbert who fought during the Peninsular War and was Orderly Officer at Longwood, Napoleon's residence on St. Helena and was in charge of security, having to confirm Napoleon's presence daily.
The letters that appear in this volume are from the fourteen months that he was an Orderly Officer until the death of Napoleon on 5th May 1821.
