 It's well known that the Malayan Communist Party first threw in their lot with the British to rid Malaya of the Japanese and, when that was accomplished, turned on their former allies to remove the Brits from the country as well. This book, based on many new special branch and communist sources, tells that story. It examines the extent to which the Communists were using the fight against the Japanese as a dress rehearsal for the more important conflict to come. The book also seeks to assess the contribution, if any, of the guerillas in bringing Japanese rule in Malaya to an end.
