On 17 May 1983 the Government appointed a Royal Commission, conducted by Mr Justice Hope, to undertake a major review of Australia's security and intelligence agencies. Having reported to the Government on the Combe-Ivanov affair in December 1983 and the Sheraton Hotel incident in February 1984, the Royal Commission presented its final reports to the Government in December 1984.
