The conflict spanned from September 1897 to April 1898, commanded by General Sir William Lockhart. Tirah is a mountainous region of what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.

This volume is based on the letters Hutchinson contributed to 'The Times' during the conflict.
