An account of the worst raid of the London Blitz told by way of recollections of those involved and/or those who experienced it, chronologically through the day, on the very morning that the Minister of Home Security, Herbert Morrison, had announced the forming of a National Fire Service. Sadly that was too late for London that night as autonomous local fire authorities resisted sending engines to London, the fire service training was not standardised and equipment that did not necessarily connect universally.
