The Royal Marines (1969) By J. L. Moulton

Nothing is impossible for the Royal Marines', said the Captain General, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, and for the past three centuries they have been intent on proving this statement to be profoundly true.

Since the formation of the Corps in 1664 there have been few campaigns in which the Royal Marines have not been heroically and bloodily engaged.

Wherever the fighting was most deadly and the odds against victory most daunting, the Royal Marines were there.

In the First World War they fought at Jutland, Zeebrugge, Gallipoli and on the Western Front. In the Second World War, Royal Marines were predictably in the forefront of battle. There were Royal Marines in the tragic reverses at Calais, the Hook of Holland and Crete: Royal Marine survivors of The Repulse and Prince of Wales, sunk off the Malay Peninsula in 1942, made history when they fought alongside the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in a composite unit which bore the proud title `The Plymouth Argylls'.

In the post-war years their conduct in action has never been less than splendid--in Palestine, Malaya, Cyprus, Suez, Kuwait, Aden, Borneo and currently in Northern Ireland. This is a book that will be read at a single sitting by any past or present Royal Marine, and by anyone else who can be stirred by great deeds of duty, discipline and daring.
